Long Racing Engines provides a full spectrum of cylinder head services.
All head work, with the exception of CNC porting, is done in house by one of the
professional machinists at L.R.E.
Valve jobs are done using a state of the art Newen machine. We are able
to cut seats with up to seven angles by using one fixed cutting bit. Multi
angle valve jobs create a smoother transition for the air coming into or exiting
a cylinder. The result is more velocity and flow, which can increase
power. Finished seats are vacuum tested to ensure 100% valve seal.
We currently use two valve grinders. One machine is used for the majority
of valves while the other is used only for titanium valves. This allows us
to provide the best finish for the specific application. L.R.E. can
perform valve multi angle valve jobs on almost any foreign or domestic vehicle.
We are also equipped to perform these precision procedures on Harley Davidson
heads.
Long Racing Engines can angle mill and flat mill cylinder heads. Flat
milling is typically used to clean up low spots in the head. This is a
very simple procedure that can be the difference in a gasket sealing or not.
There are a number of reasons to angle mill heads. One is to increase the
static compression ratio. This is the fastest way to reduce the CC of the
combustion chamber while seeing minimum changes in valve clearance. The
angle milling procedure also creates a better valve angle. Air has a more
"straight line" path from the intake to the cylinder. This reduces air
turbulence and increases air speed. With the correct piston, a
smaller combustion chamber also makes the combustion process more efficient.
Efficiency=Power. All heads milled by L.R.E. are done so with either a CBN
or diamond cutter. This allows us to provide the best possible finish for
the type of material (cast iron or aluminum).
Long
Racing Engines now offers CNC porting. Heads are sent to a local shop
where cam specs are analyzed, and heads are machined to provide the optimal
performance for the specific application. Bigger is not necessarily
better. Air velocity plays an equally important role in developing a
winning cylinder head. Both flow and velocity are measured in order to
create the combination that will most benefit the camshaft. The power of a
engine is created by the heads, intake, and camshaft. Any one of these
components that works against another will be detrimental to the power of the
motor. This is why we need the cam specs in order to port the heads.
It is much easier and more cost effective to start with a good combination than
it is to try to make something bad work well. Please contact a
professional engine builder for recommendations when selecting any of these
components.
Basic work includes installing screw in studs, replacing seats and guides,
pressure testing, setting up spring heights, magniflux, vat, steel shot, glass
bead, and soda blasting. All work that can be performed by L.R.E. may not
be listed. Call for additional information and pricing.
